  85. I am selling a homebrew 40 meter cw transciever. It covers 7.000-7.075
  86. and about 7.100 - 7.175 mhz, puts out about 2 watts. The receiver is a
  87. direct conversion type, but uses very good audio filtering.
  88.  
  89. The rig was based on the article in August 1980 issue of QST by W7EL and
  90. improved with better double tuned band pass filter and a chebychev filter in 
  91. front of the audio preamp.

  137. Not going to mention any callsigns or names but RadioKit was founded by a 
  138. very nice couple who are well known in amateur circles in NE and all over.  
  139. They no longer own it and the present owner does not seem to be interested 
  140. in providing the level of service and quality that was originally there 
  141. under the earlier mangement.  In fact the previous owners are disappointed 
  142. with how things are being presently handled.  Thats all I will say except 
  143. this should be a wake-up call to the present owner.

  167. VHF version, covering something like 20 to 260 MHz.  Does anyone have
  168. any information on it?  It seems to work OK, but operating instructions
  169. would still be helpful, even though it's easy enough to figure out for
  170. the most part.  How about a schematic?  That would be really
  171. appreciated!

  190. Newark electronics sells them individually for $2.21 ea, 1.95 in 100's
  191. call 1-800-298-3133 x48 for a catalog and info.

  193. Penstock also has them, but only in lots of 100, for @2.00 ea

  211. can go to around 1000 volts.  Current is very low, less than 1 mA.

  242.     The concerns you have are real enough, but the one you've forgotten
  243. is the isolation between the poles. If you have 30db isolation and you're
  244. running 10W, then 10mW will be coming into your receiver front end. I think 
  245. that's near the limit for a FET (someone else may know better). If it's
  246. an instrumentation relay, it may only be good at HF. At 1Ghz it may have
  247. no isolation. Having a relay that's not resistive at 1Ghz will cause
  248. more problems than you'll ever want to know about even if it is 75ohms 
  249. rather than 50ohms. Either buy one that's known to be OK, or measure the
  250. one you have on a network analyser.

  270. Finding the parts can be a real bear, especially if you cant 
  271. get to a ham radio flea market or know old codger with an extensive
  272. junk box (and to think when I was a lad I had all that stuff too, 
  273. tubes, sockets, coils, switches and air-variable caps by the truckloads!)

  275. I just saw a book at Tower Record Bookstore that had to do with 
  276. building tube radios...most of them I saw used dry cells for B+ and 
  277. bias. Most of the circuits looked like low plate voltages..much safer
  278. believe me... I built a two-tube regenerative radio with 450VDC B+
  279. when I was a kid... unfortunately, the headphones were in series with
  280. B+ and the cables were frayed...needless to say, I contacted the B+
  281. at the ear and got knocked off my chair and landed about 6 feet away
  282. on the floor.  I have a real respect for that B+ jive!  I forgot 
  283. the title of the book, but I can get it for you, ok?

  423. painting has no metallic components, though. The machine works fine !!!

There is a conformal coating avaable from RS and Farnell in the UK. If you need exact type, mail me directly. Anyway, it is said to have good dielectric properties. To get the best from it, you need to bake at ~200 deg C for a couple of hours. I did intend using it to increase the working voltage of an air-spaced cap at 144MHz once. I must have been satisfied it would be okay at that frequency anyway. As a matter of interest, it is said to withstand an E field of 50kV/mm.

  480. I can't speak about RadioKit kits, but I sent money for a catalog
  481. a year ago and never received it.  From what was posted on the Internet
  482. back then, I wasn't the only one.  I talked to the owner while
  483. at Dayton this year.  I inquired about getting a catalog, so that I 
  484. might be able to purchase some parts.  Well, he said they were out.  I
  485. asked how then might I order parts (read, how can I send you money,
  486. so that you might profit from it) and his reply was that maybe I could
  487. get together with someone in my area and use their catalog.
  488.  
  489. Enough said.  I will only twist a person's arm so hard, in order
  490. for them to take my money for goods and/or services.
